Dimethyl Silicone Oil Description

Liquid Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS, CAS 63148-62-9) is a viscous liquid also known as dimethyl silicone oil or “Dimethicone” etc. It is a colorless, odorless, non-toxic, non-volatile liquid. Dimethicone is a colorless, odorless, non-toxic, non-volatile liquid.

Dimethyl silicone oil has the simplest structure, but is the earliest, largest and most widely used silicone oil product. Other silicone oils can be regarded as products developed to improve or change certain properties of polydimethylsiloxane.

Equivalent Product Name201 Dimethicone; Foam stabilizer L10
Equivalent Chemical NameDimethicone; Polydimethylsiloxane; Dimethylsilicone fluid; Poly (dimethylsiloxane); Polydimethyl siloxane; Dimethicone
Physical PropertiesColorless transparent liquid
Chemical PropertiesThe linear Dimethyl Silicone Oil oil with Si-O-Si as the main chain and the methyl group connected to the silicon atom has a helical structure due to the small intermolecular force, and the methyl group is arranged outward and can rotate freely, so it has a Series features. Such as colorless and transparent, small temperature and viscosity coefficient, large expansion coefficient, low vapor pressure, high flash point, high and low temperature resistance, low surface tension, high compressibility, inert to materials, chemical inert, non-corrosive and physiological inert, positive It is these characteristics that determine its broad use.

Dimethyl Silicone Oil (PDMS): Guide

Liquid Polydimethylsiloxane is called “dimethicone” and belongs to the category of silicone oil; solid dimethylsiloxane is a kind of silica gel, which is non-toxic and has good hydrophobicity.

Dimethicone has unusual rheological properties and has typical organopolysiloxane properties, including: high and low temperature resistance, oxidation resistance, low viscosity-temperature coefficient, shear resistance, low vapor pressure, low surface tension, hydrophobicity, and electrical insulation sexual, physiological inertia, etc.

Dimethyl silicone oil is the most commonly used type of silicone oil. Its applications range from contact lenses to medical devices to elastomers; it is also found in shampoos (because it makes hair shiny and smooth), food products (defoaming agent), caulks, lubricants and heat-resistant tiles.
